Research Showcase 

Returning in 2027

The Student Research Showcase is an annual research poster presentation competition that occurs during Spring Quarter.

Biology undergraduates and Masters students are invited to present a poster based on research they are conducting while at UC San Diego. At the showcase, students are expected to present their research to attendees and faculty judges. Prizes awarded to the top three performers in the categories of Honors Research, General Research and Masters Research.

It is a great opportunity to make connections with faculty, practice communicating science to the public, and network with fellow students. The showcase is open to the public. Faculty, staff, students, and even industry representatives come to check out the research our students are conducting.

There are a limited number of spots available for presenters, so register early.

Reasons to Participate

• Gain experience presenting your scientific findings while developing our communication skills
• Get feedback on your research from faculty, post-docs, alumni, and campus colleagues
• Compete for awards
• Generate contacts for future collaboration and job opportunities
• Learn about research from your peers from all areas of biological sciences
• Have your research featured in Under the Scope, a Saltman Quarterly publication

Awards

Top posters in each category will win a gift card award. Awards are presented to students after poster judging. Student posters are scored based on content (innovation, creativity, quality and originality) and communication (how well did the poster present the central theme and results of research, student communicates concisely and clearly, poster covers key points of research and includes important data, student answered questions effectively).

How to Participate

1. Register
2. Create and print your poster. It is recommended that you not wait until the last minute to print your poster. Printing cost is the responsibility of the student. See poster information for details.
3. Invite your Principal Investigator (PI), mentors, post-docs, and lab staff to support you and attend the showcase.
4. Present your poster during the poster session at the annual Research Showcase.
